Currency: € Euro

Cash or card: Card, but cash is necessary for small street vendors!

Exchange rate at time of travel: $1 USD = €0.89

What that really means: $20 USD = €17.85

What 1 will buy you: Pasteis de nata, a Portuguese pastry—try one at Pastéis de Belém!

Money to bring per day: €40 or $44.88 USD

Packing Tips

Spring/Summer packing list: Light jacket, shorts, comfortable walking shoes

What we wish we packed: A reusable water bottle to stay hydrated

Fall/Winter packing list: Umbrella, raincoat, boots

What we wish we packed: Sunscreen—it still gets sunny in the day!

And if you have extra room in your suitcase, pack: A hat to protect yourself from the sun

The Food

Average cost of lunch: €8

Tipping: Tipping isn’t necessary

Atmosphere: Lots of seafood-related dishes in almost every restaurant!

You HAVE to try: Bacalhau (salted cod), francesinha (sandwich), and pasteis de nata!
