Cuba
From community centers to art studios, explore Havana’s culture with the people who call the city home. Take a Spanish lesson, discuss education policy, and even visit an organic farm. Each experience will give you a firsthand understanding of Habaneros’ daily lives.

EF Educational Tours is pleased to offer educational and cultural exchanges to Cuba. EF qualifies for the people-to-people general license established by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of the Treasury ("OFAC"). Under this license, EF will offer educational and cultural exchanges and conversations with the people of Cuba. The itinerary is subject to change based on day of week and availability, but a complete people-to people itinerary will always be maintained.

  • Day 1: Fly to Miami

    Take a walking tour of Little Havana (time permitting)

    Attend an orientation meeting

  • Day 2: Havana

    Fly to Havana

    Meet your Cuban Tour Director at the airport

    Meet with faculty and students at the University of Havana

    • Engage in discussions about access to education, available subjects, university resources, and preparation for post-education careers

    Visit the Muraleando Community Project

    • Discuss the impact of art on communities with the artists and their students
  • Day 3: Havana

    Visit the Literacy Museum

    • Discuss Cuba's post-revolution literacy project

    Visit a Community Day Care Center

    • Discuss the types of projects that can help young Cubans overcome hardships and challenges

    Participate in a discussion about private enterprise in Cuba at a local restaurant and organic farm

    Visit a neighborhood-sponsored Learning Facility

    • Meet with teachers and students to discuss outreach projects

    Attend a children’s theater performance

    • Meet with the director, parents and children to discuss how theatrical performances can help children develop confidence and independence
  • Day 4: Havana • Pinar del Rio

    Travel to Pinar del Rio

    Meet with a tobacco farmer at a local farm

    • Discuss tobacco production 

    Engage in a discussion about organic farm practices at a local farm

    Return to Havana

  • Day 5: Havana • Matanzas

    Travel to Matanzas

    Visit the School of Music and Art

    • Interact with students and teachers

    Meet with a local artist at his art studio and workshop

    Interact with the workers at a book-making shop

    Return to Havana

  • Day 6: Havana

    Attend a Spanish lesson

    Visit a Community Project

    • Discuss the impact the project has had on the neighborhood's economy

    Discuss Cuban sports and participate in a sports activity

  • Day 7: Havana • Mayabeque Province

    Travel to Mayabeque Province

    Interact with members of the Las Terrazas community

    Engage in a discussion with a local naturalist

    Meet with a local landscape artist

    Return to Havana

    Visit José Fuster’s home and studio

    • Discuss the impact of his artwork on the community
  • Day 8: Return to Miami/Depart for home
