A Tremendous TourWe returned from our Vietnam trip on 2/24/2020. Two school groups combined for the tour meeting up in S. Korea's airport. From the moment we landed in Vietnam until the moment we departed we had a fantastic experience. Our Vietnamese tour director met us at the airport in Hanoi and stayed with us through our travels to Da Nang and on to Saigon. Our transition from one activity to another was seamless thanks to his facilitation and EF planning. Not only did we tour major sites, and experience local cuisine and have free time to walk the towns and cities we visited, but we also visited with a US Vietnam War Veteran, now living in Vietnam to talk to us about his experiences both during and after the war, and now many decades later. The trip was a blend of history, the obvious impact of the Vietnam war, and the culture and traditions which exist today for the people of Vietnam.
Vietnam's border with China is now closed due to concerns for the Coronavirus and so tourism is down in the country. But I had no concerns about travel during this time. Every place we visited was mindful about hand sanitizers and wearing protective masks. Airport health screenings existed in every airport we traveled through.
I've been blessed to have extensive travel in foreign countries throughout my life and Vietnam will remain as a favorite place and trip of a lifetime.
Connecting with VNToo much bus time and too little cultural / religious history because of the emphasis on the American War. The tour guide was great.
The hotel in Ha Long Bay was beautiful - except that the late night electronic disco music made in absolutely unbearable until 11.30. I assume it was reasonably priced because of the awful level of music.
Additionally, the group was not seated together on the plane - some care needs to be taken to see that the teachers have decent seats.
The entire trip going and returning seemed excessively long. I am sure there are better flights and connections.
