Strong partnerships are the foundation of EF Service Learning tours. We work closely with area nonprofits and community members to ensure that your contributions are sustainable, timely, and relevant.  

Since projects are determined closer to your actual tour date, here’s a glimpse at what your first day might look like: 

• Help restore the beach by removing trash and debris 
• Participate in a creative upcycling project with plastic water bottles 

Enjoy time to explore on your own before dinner 

Here’s a glimpse at what your service learning day might look like: 

• Work on a sustainable farming project, such as preparing soil or planting seeds 
• Participate in a reforestation project, such as laying soil or watering young trees 

Enjoy nature-related activities and games or participate in a cultural exchange  

Depending on the day’s weather, here’s a glimpse at what your service learning day might look like: 

• Transplant mangroves in coastal wetlands to help restore and support marine habitats and protect shorelines 
• Assist in shrimp farm restoration with tasks like reshaping waterways and constructing natural barriers to protect plant growth 
• Monitor seagrass beds by measuring growth, density, and marine biodiversity 

Reflect on experiences and lessons gained from your service projects 

Travel to Ko Lanta  

Learn about the island and the elephant sanctuary where you’ll do your service work during orientation

• Learn about elephants’ role in Thai culture, their behaviors, and the significance of ethical elephant sanctuaries  
• Prepare medicine balls for elephants
