  1. First Time Out of the Country!

My first time out of the country could not have been any better. Not only was I in a foreign area, I was without my family and speaking in a different language. I travelled through my school and I only personally knew my friend that I was going with. Now airports are very stressful and I don't know a better way to get to know five more people other than in an airport with a twelve hour flight ahead of you. We landed in Barcelona and it was 8am their time yet 2am our time; right away we were off! The days were long and the sleep was minimum, however, it was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had. My favorite places to visit were Park Güell and Sagrada Familia, and I would definitely recommend paying the extra for Montserrat. It had a great view and excellent hiking paths. However, plan for a whole day at Montserrat. Almost everyday we went to "Boldú" for lunch because it was that good. Had a bakery type feel but provided a nice menu for the price and selection. Madrid was more like a city than Barcelona; it had the big buildings and large roads feel. I wish I would have had more time in Madrid because we were very rushed in almost everything because different people wanted to see different things.

  2. Memorable

My EF Language Immersion program to Barcelona was exceptional. The classroom lessons coincided with our afternoon excursions. We had many opportunities to practice what we learned in the community. I particularly enjoyed walking around the streets of Barcelona. You really got a feel for the city and the culture. Our EF guides were very informative, personable and helpful. This tour really provided a comprehensive overview of Barcelona.

  4. Fantastic experience!

I really can't complain about anything! While it was an expensive trip, it was worth every penny. The tour guide was top notch (thanks, Jose), the restaurants were great, the variety of activities was good and I definitely had the feeling that all I had to take care of was my kids! One thing: we went to the same restaurant "group" twice, so I would change that. Also, while I loved the Spanish class opportunity, I would have liked them to start later for my middle school kids.

  5. Absolutely Incredible!

Leading our language immersion tour was the best thing I have done in my eleven years of teaching. Not only did this experience allow my students to learn their second language in an immersion environment, but it gave them immediate opportunities to use their language in meaningful ways. Watching my students interact with locals - including with kids their own ages - often brought me to tears. The hands-on activities and tours taught my students much more than I could ever hope to within the walls of my classroom. It was amazing watching my students grow in their new language and become much more confident world travelers. This tour also provided invaluable professional development for me as a Spanish teacher and I was able to practice my own language skills and attend advanced language classes of my own, while my students were attending their lessons. Needless to say, I would highly recommend this immersion program and tour to other Spanish teachers. I am looking forward to planning my next adventure with my students!

  6. Exceeded Expectations

This trip was beyond what I imagined. The tour director customized the experience to fit exactly what the kids needed. Our students' language teacher was flexible and responsive to their needs as well. She did a great job of finding ways to keep them engaged in class even when they were tired from all of their adventures! The cultural activities with art, dance, and food were remarkable and unique. This was an unforgettable experience for both the kids and adults.

I just returned from a 15-day language immersion tour in Spain. It was hands-down the best trip I've been on. It was a truly life-changing experience for my students; one that I know they will never forget. Our tour included 3 days in Madrid, 9 days in Barcelona, and 3 days in Mallorca. Madrid and Mallorca were great kicking-off and winding-down points for the trip, with Barcelona making up the real learning and growing experiences. In Madrid, we learned a lot about the history of Spain and got to visit some amazing places such as the Prado Museum and the Royal Palace. In Barcelona, the students had language classes in the morning, which they loved! They had an amazing teacher at the EF Language Institute. We also participated in many activities with local people, all of which were in Spanish which gave the students ample opportunity to listen to and practice speaking Spanish in an authentic way. The time in Barcelona also included visits to national treasures like La Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, and Montserrat. Some favorite activities of the students were the dinner with locals and the visit to a local day camp for kids. They loved interacting with locals. Ending the trip with 3 days in Mallorca was perfect. It gave us time to unwind and relax and have a bit of fun in the sun. Also, we had the world's best tour director. She was absolutely amazing and really bonded with the kids. The whole trip could not have been more perfect!!!! I can't wait to do it again next year.
