Optional excursions, meals and money
Choose optional excursions
Your group can enhance the tour experience by purchasing optional excursions. You can get a discounted rate by purchasing optional excursions at least 50 days prior to departure. Many excursions must be pre-booked while some can also be purchased on tour. Start discussing optional excursions with your students now in preparation for the pre-booking deadline. You can view the optionals offered on your tour and check to see which students have signed up for optinals by visiting

Set meal expectations
Travelers should expect food and portion size to be different than what they are accustomed to in the United States. Breakfast typically includes cereal, bread or rolls, jam, juice, coffee and tea. Lunch is a chance to make culinary discoveries of your own. Included dinners will be a mix of familiar dishes and local specialties. Your group will receive a pre-set meal rather than ordering from a menu. Please talk to your tour director about your options. Advise your group that they will be expected to pay for soft drinks and other beverages at dinner. Table water is provided free of charge; bottled water is provided only in those countries where deemed necessary by locals (e.g. Egypt).
Review spending money suggestions
We recommend bringing the equivalent of $50 in the currency of your arrival destination. Travelers should obtain this amount of local currency before the tour so they have it with them when they arrive. We also suggest telling your travelers that they should plan on budgeting approximately $40 to $60 per day for spending money. Do not bring travelers' checks since they are difficult to cash. ATMs are the most convenient method for cash withdrawls. All travelers should check with their banks to ensure their cards and current passwords will work abroad.
