Global Citizen Scholarship

EF awards Global Citizen Scholarships annually to high school students dedicated to promoting global awareness. Recipients of the 2012 Global Citizen Scholarship will enjoy the opportunity of a lifetime: a free educational tour to Berlin designed to unite students around the world.

A half century ago, U.S. President John F. Kennedy traveled to Berlin and proclaimed, “Ich bin ein Berliner!” (I am a Berliner!) to show his solidarity with the people of the troubled and divided German city. The Wall is no more and Berlin is once again the capital of a united Germany, but the city and country still struggle to find their new global identity.

To become an EF Global Citizen, freshmen, sophomores and juniors should create a video, digital media project or essay that responds to the following prompt:

What defines your identity as a Global Citizen?

In today’s increasingly interconnected world, people, cities and nations are all in search of identity. Describe your identity. What defines who you are? How do you express your identity as a citizen of the world? How would experiencing an educational tour to Berlin shape your identity as a Global Citizen?

We will begin accepting submissions on November 1, 2011, on the EF Tours Global Citizen Facebook page.

Submit your application by December 15, 2011, and you’ll be eligible to win a free iPad! The best project or essay, as determined by EF, will also be posted online

The final application deadline is February 1, 2012. Click here for complete project application guidelines.

"I enjoyed the trip so much. I got to see things I never dreamed of seeing. I got such a good take on the culture and I loved trying new foods and communicating with natives. The tour guides were super insightful and friendly. Everyone was making sure you had the best experience possible."
