ENCOURAGING SUSTAINABLE GROWTH:
This environmentally-charged project has you working closely with the Dominican’s own Brigada Verde (Green Brigade), a Peace Corps initiative of young women who are committed to preserving the environment and promoting responsible tourism. Join them and Jarabacoa’s National Environmental School to help raise awareness through composting, community gardening and tutoring. You’ll also get to enjoy the raw beauty that you’re helping to preserve on the tropical beaches of Jarabacoa.

Program themes
To provide global context for each project, our programs are designed to explore important international development goals. These goals drive the values we hope to share with students, and they are the change we’re determined to see for our community partners abroad.

URBANIZATION
Historically, the movement from rural to urban areas has meant economic progress for a community. Just as ancient civilizations had recognized, urbanization is a natural transition that provides greater access to resources to more people. The UN predicts that 64.1% of the developing world will be urbanized by 2050.

SUSTAINABILITY

Every population’s survival depends upon the measures they take to live sustainably within their environment. As our growing population continues to challenge Earth’s resources and wildlife, we must understand and practice every conservational tool available—from international preservation efforts to simply living responsibly.

LANGUAGE & CULTURE
You’ll have the chance to connect with people who are doing some amazing things, but that requires more than just being present. Making connections means asking questions, understanding why things are done differently, fumbling for freshly learned words and being fearless to learn. There’s really nothing more rewarding.
