The World of EF Education First
How we began. EF Education First was founded in Sweden in 1965 by a young entrepreneur named Bertil Hult. Our concept was straightforward: take high school students to England to learn English. It was a simple business idea—on-site language and cultural studies—but one with an enormous future.
Who we are today.Four decades later, EF Education First is the world’s largest private education organization, with a group of 15 subsidiaries and nonprofit organizations centered around language learning, educational travel, cultural exchange and academic programs. EF has over 26,000 employees, teachers and volunteers, with offices and schools in more than 50 countries. Our mission is to break down the barriers of language, culture and geography that divide us.
Where we are going. EF’s mission is more relevant than ever. Today’s world is increasingly complex and interdependent. Cross-cultural communication and understanding are vital to long-term success. EF’s programs enable everyone to make the world their classroom.
What EF Educational Tours does.EF Educational Tours, our international student travel company, allows educators in North America, Europe and India to incorporate international travel into their lesson plans. Our escorted tours, known as the Global Classroom, allow student groups to experience firsthand the very best historic, cultural and natural sites in the world.
